Claire Tipper

Originally from the UK Claire has been teaching for over 20 years. During those years she has held various roles. Claire was the area co-ordinator for Gifted and Talented and responsible for 13 schools in one area. She had a budget of over £120,000 to raise the standards of education within her schools with a focus on providing quality PD for the staff across those schools. She also supported numerous enrichment programs for G and T students which often encompassed those with learning barriers. Since being in Australia, Claire has taught Maths, English, and Drama and held various student welfare positions, with a current qualification as a Youth Mental Health First Aider. Claire was fortunate enough to gain a position as a Learning Support Teacher at Hunter Trade College in Telarah, Newcastle. Claire views the role of an LST, as providing direct and timely specialist assistance to students who require learning and support needs. Her main job is to focus on the literacy and numeracy needs of students in collaboration and consultation with the individual students, parents/carers and teachers to improve the student’s educational outcomes. Claire is also responsible for testing, monitoring, assistance with planning and providing strategies and support to students with literacy and numeracy needs in her current school context.
